Where does your support come from?

Our funds and food come directly form individuals, the postal workers annual collection, local congregations, other church groups, schools, scouts and local businesses, fraternal organizations, and independent drives. And in 2008 and 2009 we applied for and received grants from the Union County Community Foundation arm of the Foundation for the Carolinas to update our operations and buy and install a walk-in freezer. We also received grants from FEMA's Emergency Food and Shelter Program to help with increasing costs and demand for service.

Food Safety

Are canned goods still safe after a year? Two years? Longer?

Store high acid foods such as tomatoes and other fruit up to 18 months; low acid foods such as meat and vegetables 2 to 5 years.
Canned meat and poultry will keep at best quality 2 to 5 years if the can remains in good condition and has been stored in a cool, clean, dry place. Properly stored it may still be used but quality is not at its best.
